Poster: We chose that particular photograph for the poster because of the setting. As a group we decided that the graffiti on the wall behind was quite effective and contributed towards the urban culture theme. We followed the conventions of a typical film poster by adding quotes from newspapers at the top with the film titile beneath. We then added small text at the bottom of the poster with the names of editors, directors and producers in order to stick to the generic conventions.

How have you considered genre in creating your media text and what signifies pinpoint the genre?
We have used several different codes and conventions to portray our genre which is social realism (urban teen drama). We used an underground subway which reflected an urban setting also the costume used suggests the stereotypical teenagers of today. I think that the graffiti behind the characters is effective and emphasises the stereotype placed on young people. The movie title for the poster emulates the graffiti effect (the repertoire of elements).

Have you subverted any conventions? if so, why?
We kept all the conventions of a urban teen drama genre as we wanted to fulfill the audiences expectations.

What kind of media producer would produce your kind of media text?
A feature film producer such as Damian Jones who is successful in the British film industry would produce our media text due to them being familiar and experienced in producing this particular genre.

Does your media text show fluidity of genre or is it similar to older media texts of the same genre? if it is different, how?
Our media text portrays a modern genre which has only developed over the last few years. We considered the zeitgeist by using social realism to capture the recent topics in todays society such as knife crime, gang culture, sex, alcohol and drugs. This way consumers can relate to the media text and it fulfills the expectations of a social realist film.

Above are some of the photographs we considered using for the front cover for our magazine and poster. We experimented with the back grounds in order to see which would look best on the cover of our magazine and poster. I thought that the locations we found made interesting backgrounds for our photographs which fit the urban style we were looking for. The images represent the theme of our movie trailer and show the deprived areas in which teenagers hang out in today's society. The costumes and setting used show consumers a sneak peek of what to expect from the film trailer and the themes. We purposely used typical on trend urban teenage clothing for the models to reflect the genre and targe audience. When taking the pictures, we had to ensure we used the techniques of a generic magazine cover, such as rule of thirds; this meant leaving a space on one side of the models. This way we could fit on straplines for example.

Here is an example of a film magazine called 'Empire'. I like how the kicker has used the same theme colours as the film. I also think that the way Brad Pitt's head had been placed over the mast head suggesting that this is a popular magazine which people will automatially reckognise, even without seeing the whole masthead.
For the advanced portfolio me and my group have decided to produce a film trailer alongside a film poster and magazine front cover to advertise the film. Our aims are to target the social group based within the film, allowing them to relate to the characters and lifestyles they live. Our film trailer will be set in Birmingham therefore it will reflect the lives of teenagers from Birmingham who face serious issues daily. We want our film trailer to unvail the harsh realities of life through these teenagers eyes. In order to target this audience we had to think carefully about the costume and setting we would use for out poster and magazine cover.

ideas and intentions
Inspiration:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhrJBUMxNMQ
The 'Adulthood' trailer follows the conventions of social realism and urban dramas as if shows the difficulties and struggles of everyday people. The 'Adulthood' trailer inspired me and my group to create a trailer using the same genre as it reflects urban life and teenagers in modern day society. Usually films within the social realist canon are raw and gritty, reflecting on the struggle to survive. The generic conventions of urban dramas and social realism include realistic conflict between characters. They're usually serious, and reflect real life situations. 'Adulthood' gives incite into the grim truth of the lives some teenagers live which is used to move the audience emotionally. It shows audience their difficulties, hardships, struggles and pain, including urban battles such as illegal drugs and gang violence.
The characters in the film/ trailer represent the stereotypes of teenagers in todays society. Every character has their own story, for example 'Sam', the protagonist', has just come out of prison, however he wants to end his life of violence. He soon finds that this is more difficult than he expected when all the friends of the boy he murdered are out to kill him. There are also characters with drug issues, characters faced with difficult decisions and have responsibilities they didn't have before. The props used include guns, knives, drugs and alcohol, this says a lot about what Nowel Clark is suggesting about the teenagers today.
